“Coach Dilemma”: BBC Pundits says Chelsea could win the Premier League if they hire 43-year-old instead of Mauricio Pochettino

BBC Pundit Chris Sutton has claimed that Chelsea could be Premier League contenders if they hired Roberto de Zerbi as their new manager.

He told ‘The Monday Night Club’ that he believes the Brighton man would be the best candidate to bring Chelsea back to the level of Manchester City.

It is easy to make an argument for De Zerbi to be named as the manager of the season after the job he has done down at the Amex.

Taking over from Graham Potter was always going to be a tough job, due to the foundations and standards the Englishman had set at the club in his tenure so far.

However, while he was struggling to make the step up required at Stamford Bridge, the Italian was taking Brighton to their first ever European qualification.

Sutton backs De Zerbi to make Chelsea contenders

His brilliance has not gone unnoticed, with Sutton claiming now he has the quality to make Chelsea title contenders if they wanted to hire him.

He said: “I know Pochettino’s going in at Chelsea, but if De Zerbi got offered the Chelsea job we would all say that Chelsea have a chance of winning the Premier League, wouldn’t we?”

Mauricio Pochettino is currently expected to be announced soon as the new manager ahead of next season, with Frank Lampard currently in the role on an interim basis.

Reports have already begun to emerge regarding the players that he is looking to build his side around, with a homegrown quota certainly being part of his remit as it was when he was in charge with Tottenham.

One of these players is Levi Colwill, who is set for a huge opportunity at the club following Benoit Badiashile’s recent injury woes.
